While no new sponsor could be found to take over what most recently has been known as the “Stren” Series, it would appear that  FLW is still holding out hope for more presence in California.

The role of Pure Fishing’s “other” line company (not the flagship Trilene) ends this month and the Western version of the series was already terminated. This has left the reduced-entry National Guard Series to hold the region’s attention for professional level angling. However, several competitive organizations have been quick to provide alternatives to FLW.

Interestingly, I’ve learned that staff members have been told to keep the Western dates they acquired at the California Bass Jamboree. Whether this is to bring back a belated smaller tour, use as an insurance policy for National Guard, to add new showcase events, to barter with other organizations or to block the competition, it is not clear.

Elsewhere, according to a story on Bassfan.com, the former Stren tour will continue as the “American Fishing Series.” This is at least the third version of that circuit, which was previously titled the Everstart Series several years back.
