With quaggas keeping many anglers out of the loop, guide Rich Tauber is reporting some good action for his clients while sight fishing in the crystalline waters of Lake Casitas.

“The water is the clearest it’s been since the ’80’s” he told me. “You can see 12 feet deep. We are catching them sight fishing on Senkos.” One of his clients, Ladd Hardy, marketing VP for a major pet food manufacturer, got the nice 6 1/2 pounder pictured.

Casitas is up some up about eight feet this year, and Tauber says Santa Ana Creek is still running. Of course, for those who like the lake for it’s amazing live bait action, guides and local fishermen are on the watch. Rich says, “We are going to see the shad any day now.”

Of course, as rep for Phoenix Boats and the only pro to fish every U.S. Open bass tournament since 1981, Tauber remains pretty active in the bass arena, although he has trimmed his tournament participation. However, he will be included in the popular fishing show, Ultimate Match Fishing, which appears on the Outdoor Channel.

In fact, he says, “I leave this Sunday to fish against Marty Stone for the television show…. It will air in the fall of this year.” Also competing for the title Belt and $50,000 are Denny Brauer, Luke Clausen and Ken Cook among others.
