Season opens

SEASON OPENS April 6 with discounted lake entry.

UPDATED, March 31. Just a week away, what is known locally as the “Season Opener,” actually refers to the beginning of the highest lake use period during the year. So to celebrate, on April 6, the City of Lake Elsinore is waiving its $15 lake use fee, so that boaters will only pay the launch fee of the facility they choose (usually about $10).

The event is one way to introduce new boaters and fishermen to the lake, which, by the way, is open from sunrise to sunset. The largest launch facilities are the Seaport Landing in the southeast corner of the lake, Elsinore West Marina and RV Park in the northwest corner of the lake and the new, mega La Laguna ramp on the north side.

According to Pat Kilroy, head of the Lake, Parks & Recreation Dept. a couple of things are worth noting. One, that every boat have the mandatory safety items such as life vests for everyone aboard, a throwable PFD, fire extinguisher, red warning flag and sound device.

With the first ever, Dream Extreme [team]  set for June 1-2, this discounted entry to the lake, April 6, could be a great way to sample the lake ahead of the event. (I understand more details on the tournament are forthcoming, but note added flyer). The contest will be hosted by the Lake Elsinore Casino Hotel and Ronnie Kovach’s Outdoor Radio Expeditions on AM 830 radio.
